Try these home-made bars:

Boil over medium-high heat: 4 tablespoons butter, ½ cup brown sugar and ¼ cup honey. Then simmer on medium-low for about 2 minutes.

Remove from heat and add 2 cups of oats, 1 cup of rice cereal, ½ cup of broken pretzels, some sunflower seeds, raisins (or any other nuts or dried fruit on hand). Spread into a 9 x 13 pan, sprinkle some chocolate chips on top and press them firmly into the mixture. Cool and slice into bars.

Granola bars are a school day staple—mid-morning snack, dessert at lunch, after-school treat. What would we do without them? As the cost of most everything increases and with a peanut butter recall to boot, granola bars might come off shopping lists. But that’s no reason to do without.
