Sugar Cookies

 

¾ cup shortening

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

½ teaspoon vanilla

2 ½ cups flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream together shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla.

In a separate bowl, mix flour, powder and salt.

Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.

 

To make shapes:

Lightly dust a clean surface with flour.

Roll out dough and cut into shapes.

Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

 

Quick cookies:

Form dough into walnut-sized balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Smash each ball with a flat-bottomed glass dipped in flour.

 

Bake for 6 – 8 minutes in a 350 degree oven.

 

Ice the cookies with purchased icing or make royal icing.
